Today, voting for snap parliamentary elections to the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan has begun, APA reports.
Voting began at 08.00 local time.
Prior to the voting, the Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC), Mazahir Panahov, held a press conference and provided information about the preparation process for the election and the work done by the CEC in relation to the election.
M. Panahov stated that today is a historic day for Azerbaijan. The CEC Chairman noted that the parliamentary elections cover 125 constituencies and a total of 6,478 polling stations (6,343 permanent and 135 temporary polling stations). It was mentioned that for the first time, parliamentary elections are being held in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan. In the liberated territories, 54 polling stations will be operational, including 34 permanent and 20 temporary ones. Web cameras have been installed in 1,000 polling stations covering 119 constituencies.
A total of 6,421,960 voters are eligible to vote in the parliamentary elections. Of these voters, 47.55% are men, and 52.45% are women. On election day, 374 voters will be 18. The number of voters participating for the first time in the elections to the Milli Majlis is 51,141.
A total of 6,516,567 ballots have been printed for the election.
A total of 112,749 local and 598 international observers (from 51 organizations and citizens of 69 countries) have registered to monitor the parliamentary elections.
Voting began with the playing of the national anthem, and the polling stations were declared open for voting.
Note that a total of 990 candidates are running in the elections, and all necessary conditions for a free and fair campaign were provided in accordance with legal requirements. Over 600 international observers and more than 112,000 local observers are monitoring the elections. Additionally, webcams have been installed at 1,000 polling stations nationwide to allow for live and continuous observation of the voting process.
Voting will end at 19:00.
The Elections' Information Center of the Central Election Commission Secretariat will provide preliminary information about the progress and results of the voting at 10:00, 12:00, 15:00, 17:00, and 19:00.
