“We have monitored the elections in Azerbaijan before too. This time as well, we came to observe the extraordinary presidential elections held in Azerbaijan with delegation consisting of 20 people,” said Sergei Markov, a Russian observer and director of the Institute of Political Studies of Russia as he talked about the snap presidential elections held in Azerbaijan on February 7, APA reports.

He said that they represent citizen dialogue group: “This group was established 15 years ago. The goal is to help the development of civil societies of different countries. We, as well as, monitor elections held in different countries as observers. 20 members of group came to Azerbaijan to monitor the elections.

We have observed elections in 30 polling stations by dividing into 4 groups. The elections were held very transparently. An election process, in accordance with the Constitution of Azerbaijan and international standards took place and fully covered the will of the voters. I congratulate Ilham Aliyev on the occasion of worthy and landslide victory.

There was a high voter turnout, which was predictable. For the first time, the elections took place in the all parts of modern Azerbaijan, as well as, in Garabagh. I would like to note one thing from our observations that, the voters voted for Ilham Aliyev as if they were voting for a National Hero. I’m sure that all international organizations will admit that the elections were held fairly and freely. There were minor technical shortcomings, but these did not hinder the voting process. We will prepare final comment on all our observations and send them to the Central Election Commission of Azerbaijan,” – he noted.

Note that on February 7, 2024, Azerbaijan held a snap presidential election. Candidates for the presidency in the election included incumbent President Ilham Aliyev (New Azerbaijan Party), independent contenders Zahid Oruj and Fuad Aliyev, Razi Nurullayev (National Front Party), Fazil Mustafa (Great Order Party), Elshad Musayev (Great Azerbaijan Party), and Gudrat Gasanguliyev (Whole Azerbaijan Popular Front Party).

Noted that Ilham Aliyev won the presidential election in Azerbaijan with 92.05 percent of the votes.
