YAP official: The imprisoned NGO leaders are no hostages, so weâ€™re not supposed to release them unconditionally

Baku. Mubariz Aslanov – APA. Deputy Executive Secretary of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party (YAP) Siyavush Novruzov has called “Freedom House” an anonymous international organization. The MP said the organization continues to hold a biased position against Azerbaijan, APA reports.

“Now this organization demands the unconditional release of the NGO leaders imprisoned in Azerbaijan. They are no hostages, so we’re not supposed to release them unconditionally. The investigation is underway and this process has to be settled in a legal way,” he said.

Novruzov thinks NGOs in Azerbaijan should render the report of grants received from international organizations.

“We asked the representatives of the Parliament Assembly of the Council of Europe why they deprive Russia from the voting right, but not Armenia? They told us it was 1992 when Armenia invaded Azerbaijani lands, and Azerbaijan has been a member of the Council of Europe since 2001,” he said.
