Preliminary results of research on volcanic eruption in Shabran made public

Head of the ANAS Institute of Geology's Mud Volcano Department Adil Aliyev told APA that the incident occurred there isn’t a volcanic eruption. He said that avalanche occurred there, but it is unknown whether it happened due to the landslide or other reason: “The employees took photos and I will know what happened there after watching them tomorrow. However, debris occurred there, not a volcanic eruption.”

Aliyev said though there are various mud volcanoes in Shabran, there is no any mud volcano in the area where the incident happened.

Volcano erupts in Azerbaijan

Baku. Konul Kamilgizi – APA. A volcano has erupted in Shabran region of Azerbaijan today.

Head of the ANAS Institute of Geology's Mud Volcano Department Adil Aliyev told APA that they received information about it.


The employees of the Institute of Geology have been sent there and will carry out research in the area. Aliyev said that they didn’t have exact information how much area the volcanic eruption covered and how long it lasted: “We have received information from the region that the volcano erupted. We should clarify whether it was eruption or not. We sometimes receive false information from the people. Thus, relevant researches should be carried out. Exact information will be available after the researches.”
