Baku – APA. “If the West, Europe had taken a fair position on Azerbaijan, the young country, the Nagorno Karabakh conflict would have been resolved long ago and 20 percent of our territories would not have been under occupation for more than 20 years,” said deputy head of the Azerbaijani Presidential Administration and chief of Foreign Relations Department Novruz Mammadov in his exclusive interview with APA TV.
Mammadov said that Azerbaijan faced double standards not only today or yesterday, but also in the first days of independence: “The territories of Azerbaijan are under occupation of another country, but Section 907 has been adopted against our country. For years, in Azerbaijan’s cooperation with the West this issue has been a stain for the opposite side. But we have achieved great achievements closely cooperating with the West and Europe. The same can be said about the energy cooperation, struggle against international terrorism, joint participation in the peacekeeping operations in Iraq, Kosovo and Afghanistan. But despite this we have always witnessed one-sided, biased attitude towards Azerbaijan."
Novruz Mammadov said compared to most countries of Eastern Europe and post-Soviet states, the elections in Azerbaijan were held on the highest level.
Mammadov said the fate of the people in Azerbaijan is not determined by Europe. "The fate of our people is not determined by the West. The fate of the people is determined by themselves, the leader they elect. The Azerbaijani people, voters are cleverer than they think, they see the future better," he said.
