Baku. Mubariz Aslanov - APA. “Pre-election environment in Azerbaijan is transparent and democratic, all the issues are regulated within the law. Electoral institutions build their activities in line with the legislation”, chief of socio-political department of the Presidential Administration Ali Hasanov told APA.
Hasanov noted that executive and local authorities carry out their functions in accordance with the law, there is no problem in this regard: “The presidential candidates conduct election campaign in media and press. Their speeches on TV and radio are covered across the country in accordance with the law and there is no obstacle and no problem in this regard. As regards the behavior of people close the candidates during meetings or other events, their confrontation with the police, all these are regulated under the law. The authorities are not biased towards anyone, are not going to take measures against anyone. Simply, certain measures are carried out against those who want to break the law, stir up a conflict.
For example, recently, some people have acted against the campaign of different candidates, torn their posters. Of course, measures are taken against such persons in accordance with the requirements of the legislation. It has nothing to do with with the opposition or electoral process. These measures are conducted by the police to protect public order, ensure stability and hold the election process in accordance with the law and without incidents”.
Hasanov also touched upon the scandals among candidates during televised debates. He said that such cases are observed in other countries during the election process: “The ability of all candidates to debate, their approach to issue is not the same. Of course, this is not a desirable circumstance. Every country's electoral institutions want to hold the election transparently, without any incident. However, existence of such cases is natural”.
