â€œMerac Holdingâ€ Board Chairman arrested

Baku. Hafiz Heydarov – APA. Chairman of the Board of Directors of “Merac Holding” was arrested. The General Prosecutor’s Office told APA that urgent operations were carried out upon the appeal of an employee of “Bakienerjitikinti” Open Joint-Stock Company submitted to the Main Anti-Corruption Department under General Prosecutor's Office.

Board Chairman of “Merac Holding” Sabuhi Aliyev, abusing his powers, in order to maintain others’ property by a deceit, with the help of the official, his supposedly friend, promised the employee of “Bakienerjitikinti” OSJC that the company will be commissioned with the construction of the 204 houses for the families who are the victims of the earthquake occurred in Zagatala-Balakan regions. He demanded AZN 24.480 being 120AZN for each house. And he was arrested red-handed while taking AZN 20.000 of that amount at the office of the company.

Criminal case has been launched under the Criminal Code’s articles #178.3.2 (swindle that has caused damage in the large size) and 312-1 (illegally influencing the decision of an official).

During the search of Aliyev’s apartment, the copies of individuals’ ID cards and military IDs, medical certificates, certificates of residence and family members and other documents were found and seized.

Aliyev faced charges under the Criminal Code’s article #178.3.2 and sent to pretrial detention.

Investigation is underway.
