Six years have passed since the Armenian armed forces launched a missile attack on Azerbaijan’s Barda city, APA reports.
During the 44-day Patriotic War, which began on September 27, 2020, Armenian forces shelled Barda on October 5. Two people were killed and six others were injured by shrapnel after missiles struck central streets of Barda and an area near the central hospital. Civilian infrastructure sustained extensive damage.
Barda district came under fire five times during the war — on October 5, 8, 27 and 28, and November 7, 2020. A total of 29 residents were killed and 112 others were injured in attacks involving various weapons, missiles and cluster munitions. Among those killed were two children, eight women and 19 men.
On October 5, 2020, Armenian forces also shelled Ganja. Missiles struck areas near Ganja International Hospital, Secondary School No. 34, a furniture factory on Shah Ismayil Khatai Street, the area known as the Yevlakh bus station, and the central market. Three civilians were injured and civilian infrastructure was extensively damaged.
Ganja came under missile and heavy artillery fire five times during the war — on October 4, 5, 8, 11 and 17. The attacks killed 26 people and injured 175 others.
Two missiles were also fired at Beylagan on October 5, with one landing in the yard of a kindergarten and another in an empty area. Barda, Ganja and Beylagan, as well as Goranboy, Goygol and Tartar districts, were subjected to fire that day.
Overall, during the Patriotic War, Armenian forces shelled Azerbaijani cities and districts including Ganja, Barda, Yevlakh, Beylagan, Tartar, Gabala, Goranboy, Aghjabadi and Khizi with ballistic missiles and other heavy artillery systems. A total of 93 civilians, including 12 children and 27 women, were killed and 454 civilians were injured. Some 12,292 residential and non-residential facilities and 288 vehicles were damaged.
Criminal cases were launched under relevant articles of Azerbaijan’s Criminal Code in connection with the incidents.
