Number of contenders for presidential nomination in Azerbaijan rises to 15-LIST -UPDATED

The number of candidates for the presidency in Azerbaijan has reached 15 people, APA reports.

The Central Election Commission approved the nomination of Ilham Aliyev for the presidency on December 19.

Ilham Aliyev was nominated for the presidency on December 15 by the Management Board of the New Azerbaijan Party.

On December 21, CEC approved the nomination of Zahid Oruj and Fuad Aliyev, the presidential candidate of the Great Order Party, Fazil Mustafa, the presidential candidate of the Great Azerbaijan Party, Elshad Musayev, the presidential candidate of the United Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan, Gudrat Hasanguliyev, and the presidential candidate of the National Front Party, Razi Nurullayev.

Thus, the nomination of 7 people for the presidency has been confirmed.

The issue related to the other 8 people nominated for the presidency on their own initiative will be considered at the next meetings of the CEC. Those persons are the following:

- Sarvan Karimov

- Matlab Mutallimli

- Abutalib Samadov

- Fikrat Yusifov

- Yusif Baghirzada

- Arzuman Abdulkarimov

- Yunus Oghuz

- Gulamhuseyn Alibayli.

Note that on February 7, 2024, extraordinary presidential elections will be held in Azerbaijan.

"The number of presidential candidates has reached 15 in the extraordinary presidential elections," said the Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Azerbaijan Mazahir Panahov at the meeting of the Central Election Commission held today, APA reports.

The Chairman of the CEC said that the nomination of 7 people has already been approved, and work is underway to approve the nomination of 8 people.
