The deadline for submitting the documents required to register a presidential candidate to the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Azerbaijan has ran out today, APA reports.
According to Article 58.1 of the Election Code, candidate for presidency, an authorized representative of a political party, a bloc of political parties must submit the election documents necessary for the registration of the candidate to the Central Election Commission at most 50 and at least 30 days before the voting day by 18 o’clock.
To date, 17 candidates have been approved by the CEC.
On December 19, 2023, the Central Election Commission approved the candidacy of Ilham Aliyev for the post of president from the ruling New Azerbaijan Party. Ilham Aliyev’s candidacy for the post of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan was registered at a meeting of the Central Election Commission held on December 30.
