The Central Election Commission (CEC) of the Republic of Azerbaijan has registered Ilham Aliyev's candidacy for the presidency, APA reports.
The decision on this was made at the meeting of CEC held today.
Note that the Board of the New Azerbaijan Party (NAP) nominated Ilham Aliyev for the presidency on December 15. On December 16, NAP submitted the documents on the nomination of Ilham Aliyev to the CEC. CEC approved the nomination of Ilham Aliyev for the presidency on December 19.
On December 26, YAP submitted the signature sheets with 50,000 voter signatures collected for Ilham Aliyev's defense to the CEC along with other documents required under Article 58.1 of the Election Code, and the process of examining the documents was completed yesterday.
The issue was put to a vote and the CEC registered Ilham Aliyev's candidacy for the presidency.
