YAP official accuses opposition leaders in political cowardice

Baku. Ramil Mammadliâ€“APA. â€œProtest of some opposition leaders against the parliament discussion of bill on referendum for Constitutional changes and amendments is a coward action. Their reaction is laughable from the political viewâ€, Deputy Executive Secretary of the New Azerbaijan Party (YAP) Mubariz Gurbanli told APA. He said adoption and changing laws was a sovereign right of the people in every country and this point was confirmed in the first article of Azerbaijan Constitution. â€œThere are many countries in the Council of Europe which are occasionally making amendments to their constitutions. It is not concern of the Council of Europe or other international organizations. Azerbaijan is fulfilling all obligations taken before the Council of Europe, UN and OSCE. These obligations describe Azerbaijan as a country observing civil and human rightsâ€.

Gurbanli accused some oppositional leaders in the political cowardice. â€œWe are lifting restrictions in Azerbaijan Constitution. It is not restricting the national, spiritual and social development of the citizens. For some reason, some oppositional parties are focusing only one of the changes â€“ amendment to 5th point of Article 101. There are such changes which can be disputed much than others. Any restriction on this issue is contradictory to the democracy. It is a result of the oppositionâ€™s distrust to the people and its weakness. I consider that such meaningless clamor is a result of their political cowardiceâ€.
