Lawmakers propose to amend extension of presidential terms during military operations to the Constitution

Amendment about lifting of restrictions on election of one person as president for more than twice is considered to be made to Part 5 of Article 101, APA reports.
Chairman of the Parliament’s Standing Commission on Legal Policy and State-Building Ali Huseynov said the proposal contained a point about extension of presidential terms during a war if the military operations made the presidential elections impossible. The decision is made by the Azerbaijan’s Constitutional Court according to the request of government organizations providing elections and referendums. The proposal was put forward by Speaker Ogtay Asadov, said Ali Huseynov and added that generally amendments were about the extension of parliamentary authorities, human rights, respect of national symbols and etc.

Members of the parliament from New Azerbaijan Party proposed to lift the constitutional restrictions on election of one person as president for more than two terms. Speaker Ogtay Asadov ordered the above-mentioned parliamentary commissions to discuss the proposal.
