Milli Majlis holds special meeting on the occasion of 90th anniversary of Azerbaijani Parliament <font color=red>â€“ UPDATED (2)</font>

The Speaker said Milli Majlis played a great role in the independence and state-building process in Azerbaijan. â€œAbout 2500 bills and resolutions have been passed in the Parliament since 1995. Azerbaijani Parliament is a member of different international organizations. President Ilham Aliyev was a member of the Parliament for 8 yearsâ€. Then President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev addressed the special meeting. He reminded last month celebrations of 90th anniversary of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, which was the first democratic republic in the East. The President highly appreciated the activity of Azerbaijani Parliament and said the laws and resolutions adopted by Milli Majlis played important role in Azerbaijanâ€™s integration into the world. â€œThe Parliament has an important significance in protection of Azerbaijanâ€™s independence. Azerbaijan achieved independence again after the collapse of USSR. The situation of strain threatened the independence at that time. Heydar Aliyev was elected the Chairman of Milli Majlis on June 15, 1993 and that date is celebrated in the country as a National Salvation Dayâ€. Ilham Aliyev said Azerbaijan was successfully developing and gaining the higher economic potential. â€œAzerbaijan is in the period of development then and political and economic reforms were carried out in the country. Azerbaijan has become the most rapidly developing country in the world over the past 4 years with 96 % GDP reducing poverty from 49 % to 16 %. Private sectorâ€™s share in the economy is 80 %. Budget expenditures increased for ten times. Monetary resources of the country are expected to reach 20 billion USD by the end of the yearâ€. The President underlined the Azerbaijanâ€™s great role in the European energy security. Then parliament speakers of Georgia, Belarus, Poland, Moldova, Turkey, Pakistan, Kazakhstan and Romania, as well as Russian and Iranian representatives delivered speeches and congratulated Azerbaijani leadership on the occasion of 90th anniversary of Azerbaijani Parliament and wished success in its activity.
