Four soldiers have died and 39 people received hospital treatment following a fire at the Wainwright military base in Canada’s Alberta province, APA reports, citing CTV.
Nineteen of the injured are in critical condition and eight are stable, while another 12 are receiving outpatient care, CTV reported, citing Alberta Premier Danielle Smith.
The fire broke out during military exercises on October 17.
Canadian Army Major-General Wade Rutland said a sudden change in wind direction caused the flames to spread rapidly. The fire travelled approximately one kilometre within 30–60 seconds, engulfing military personnel.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney expressed condolences to the families of those killed.
The Canadian Armed Forces said there were no indications that the fire was linked to terrorism. The cause is under investigation.
