The European Union will face a devastating response from the United States if it imposes protectionist measures against American tech companies, including Starlink, US Permanent Representative to the EU Andrew Puzder said, APA reports citing Financial Times.
He said Brussels "should be cautious" and consider the potential for a strong response from Washington, given the size of the American market. "If the goal is to reduce the competitiveness of the United States, then, in my view, that is not a legitimate objective for this type of legislation," the diplomat stated. "You can't increase the competitiveness of European companies at the expense of reducing the competitiveness of American ones."
According to the FT, Pazder made this statement in response to the European Commission's proposal to reserve certain spectrum, which allows smartphones to directly connect to satellites, exclusively for European companies. This would limit access to the spectrum for companies from China and the US, including SpaceX, which operates the Starlink satellite network, the publication noted.
