We will summarize and group these proposals and discuss with the representatives of the Council of State Support to NGOs. The proposals will be directed to corresponding spheres. The proposals concern the legislation initiatives, social activity, organizing issues, assessment of activity of NGOs, regulation of NGO-state relations”, Head of the Public Policy Department of the Presidential Administration Ali Hasanov told journalists after the conference entitled “NGO-Government dialogue in strengthening of civil society”, APA reports.

Hasanov said that about 100 NGO representatives participated in the event held very effective discussions: “All issues of Azerbaijani society were mentioned at the meeting. We touched the role of NGOs in ensuring transparency in the society, support of domestic and foreign policy, the opportunities that can be created by the government to them, formation, registration, popularization of activity of NGOs and the other issues. As a governmental representative I noted that their proposals were constructive in most issues”.

Hasanov noted that most issues discussed at the meeting coincided with the policy of the government: “The issues raised by them correspond to desire and wish of the government, because civil society building forms the base of policy of Azerbaijani government. The NGOs and governmental agencies must be engaged together in the separate spheres of life of Azerbaijani society. The activity of NGOs relies on civil initiatives, this activity is directed to the protection of people and that’s why we support it”.

The PA official said that the dialogue would continue: “We agreed to continue the meetings with NGO representatives and to hold private meetings with professionalized NGOs.”

Hasanov also commented on complain of some organizations to the grant distribution process: “Issue on mechanism of grants distribution was raised in the discussions. It was complained that close relations and other factors are preferred during grant giving. The authority doesn’t participate in this process. That’s why I asked from the Council of State Support to NGOs to discuss this issue with the participation of those organizations. We will support their decision”.
