Azerbaijani Interior Ministry: Mehman Huseynov beat and insulted police, and used indecent expressions

APA reports that in his speech, E. Huseynov clarified the reasons of his brotherâ€™s detainment: â€œWe received a notification from police office on June 6 when Mehman was abroad. We said that he was not in Baku at the moment. Mehman went to police office and gave testimony as soon as he returned to Baku. If he had a goal to avoid the investigation, he could stay abroad. But Mehman said that he didnâ€™t confess guilt and there was no crime in his actâ€.

Huseynov said that his brother was arrested by order: â€œIf those who arrested Mehman think that I will be silent and will not struggle, they make mistake. I and my colleagues will continue strugglingâ€.

Mehman Huseynovâ€™s lawyer Elchin Sadigov said that he was detained on June 12: â€œHe is charged in using force against the first unit commander of the Quick Police Regimentâ€™s special-purpose team. Criminal case has been launched on the Criminal Code â„– 221.1 (hooliganism). Now he is in custody. We will do best for his releasing.â€

Spokesman for the Ministry of Internal Affairs Orkhan Mansurzadeh told APA that Investigation Department of Sabayil District Police Office has launched criminal case about Huseynov on the Criminal Code Article â„– 221.1 (hooliganism) according to gross violation of public order, as well as using of indecent expressions to the police officers, showing resistance against them and his preconceived acts: â€œHe came to Sabayil District Police Office yesterday and gave testimony. Then he was detained as an accused person.â€

Regarding the connection between Mehman Huseynovâ€™s arrest and his professional activities, Mansurzadeh said that all, regardless of position, social, and political affiliation are equal before the law and the principle of punishment for a crime applies to all and Huseynov was brought to responsibility for criminal acts: â€œTo consider this issue beyond the scope of the legal plane is a mistaken position.â€

He said that it is clearly in the videos, which have been spread in the social networks, that Mehman Huseynov beat police officers, insulted and used indecent expressions against them.
