On May 2, we held very serious discussions on it in Geneva’, Chief of Public Policy Department of the Presidential Administration Ali Hasanov told journalists, APA reports.

To him, there are very serious pressures on the European Broadcasting Union in relation to Azerbaijan: ‘Herewith they want to help to realize the pressures of foreign organizations, some internal forces, political parties, NGOs, journalists connected with Azerbaijan; involve Azerbaijan to compromise in different issues by pressing on it’.

Hasanov noted during speeches in Geneva he tried to convince event participants that the situation of freedom of press and speech, civil society, human rights in Azerbaijan did not fall behind the European countries: ‘But there are some cases which no society has been insured from it. Azerbaijani government is also firm in struggle against such cases; it fights and will fight. There are killed and pressured journalists in all over the world, but if the will of the state has been directed to democracy, human rights, the situation of freedom of speech and press must be normal in this state’.

To him, the total conclusion in Geneva is that forthcoming Eurovision song contest not to be politicized, tied with any process; ‘Azerbaijani government promises all the journalists will be provided with normal conditions during the contest. Hereupon Azerbaijan will continue mutual cooperation with western countries. At the same time, we will continue our efforts in direction of professionalism of journalists’.
