International conference “Independence, Impartiality, Efficiency, Transparency, Competence - Modern challenges of the judicial reform in Azerbaijan” held in Baku - <font color=red>PHOTO</font>

The conference was organized by the Judicial Legal Council, Supreme Court, Azerbaijan Judicial Reforms Center and the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ). Judicial reforms in Azerbaijan, Bangalore Principles on judicial conduct, prospects for improving the judicial conduct code in the country, sharing of national and international practice were discussed during the conference.

Making a keynote speech at the conference chairman of the Supreme Court Ramiz Rzayev gave information about the reforms carried out in the Azerbaijan, touched on the forthcoming goals and tasks. He said the principle of justice was protected since the formation of the judicial system, but it needs to be improved.
“It is useful to hold such a conference. Awareness of the happenings in the world will help improve the quality of the jurisdiction,” he said.

Coordinator of the UN Judicial Integrity Group Nihal Jayawickrama spoke about the Bangalore Principles on judicial conduct. He said the main thing for judges is to obey the principles of independence, impartiality, accuracy, ethics.
“In order to judge others, judges should have all these features. Judges should not forget the factor of quality,” he said.
He said the most of the principles of justice were taken from Islamic rules and laws of ancient Rome.

President of Turkish Justice Academy Huseyin Yildirim touched on the importance of cooperation between the two countries and said establishment of justice must be the goal of everyone.

Ambassador of Germany to Azerbaijan Herbert Quelle underlined the success of the judicial reforms in Azerbaijan. He considers that Azerbaijan can have success by using the practice of Germany.

Vice-President of the European Commission for the Efficiency of Justice (CEPEJ) Georg Stawa spoke about the practice of Europe and reforms carried out in this sphere.

Judges of supreme courts of Turkey, Georgia, representatives of Azerbaijani Justice Ministry, head of Azerbaijan Judicial Reforms Center Anar Bagirov also addressed the conference.
