Azerbaijan’s National Coordinator on Combating Human Traffic reports to Parliament

Eyvazov reported about the work done in the field of the prevention of human traffic in the period from January to October, 2011. 70 facts of trafficking in human being were identified and four criminal groups were rendered harmless in the past period. 17 persons were detained and 27 victims of human traffic were identified. Three persons declared wanted via Interpol for their illegal actions were arrested.

In the reporting period, about 12 000 calls concerning the human traffic, prostitution, as well as problems caused by working, education and marriage abroad, were received via Hotline.

“The investigations show that Azerbaijan is a source country for these victims. 17 of the human trafficking victims were taken to Turkey, 5 to Iran, 2 to the United Arab Emirates, 2 to Russia. 3 of the 27 victims were illiterate, 3 got incomplete education, 21 secondary education. 14 of the victims were at the age of 25-35, 25 were single. 18 victims were taken to shelter,” Eyvazov said.

National coordinator added that measures were taken to determine and register the children deprived of parental care. 3 of such children were issued ID cards, 10 birth certificates, 46 victims of human trafficking and potential victims ID cards.

The facts of involvement of Azerbaijani citizens in compulsory work were also founded. Eyvazov said that the appeals entered from the international organizations on involvement of Chinese, Turkish and Afghanistan’s citizens in compulsory work in “DIA Holding” company, Sport Complex of the State Border Service, “Azerbaijan” thermal power plant. During the investigation of the appeals the complaints were on delay or incomplete payments of salaries, as well as well as the other labor disputes. The raised issues were settled legally.

It was said that during the accounting period the monitoring was conducted for determination of compulsory work cases in various construction companies and stone quarries jointly by State Labor Inspectorate, the State Migration Service, Azerbaijan Confederation of Entrepreneurs and NGOs. The cases of infringement of construction security and registration rules, the requirements of labor legislation were found, the relevant measures were taken on the corresponding persons.
