Azerbaijani Parliament holds meeting on 20th anniversary of state independence

APA reports that the meeting started with playing the Azerbaijanâ€™s national anthem.

Speaker Ogtay Asadov congratulated the MPs on the holiday. The Speaker said that the declaring of independence by the Azerbaijani people coincided with the complex period: â€œThe military environment, at the same time inexperience of the country leadership, chaos couldnâ€™t give an opportunity to get over the heavy situation. Refugee flow from Armenia, January 20 tragedy, Khojaly genocide, the occupation of Shusha, Lachin and the other lands took place in that period. During the horrible days of June, 1993, Heydar Aliyev returned to the office on the insistence of the people and laid the foundation of the countryâ€™s political and economic development strategyâ€.

Speaker said that the reforms implemented in Azerbaijan keeps the country in the spotlight of the world. Saying that the conducted works turned Azerbaijan into a member of European peopleâ€™s family, Asadov said that Azerbaijan was a main participant of large regional significant projects implemented in the oil and gas sphere: â€œThe army-building is being successfully developed. We have only one main problem â€“ the occupation of our lands by Armenians. The entire world community began to understand Karabakh realities as a result of policy pursued by President Ilham Aliyev. We hope that this problem will be settled soonâ€ â€“ underlined Asadov.

Then the parliamentarians watched a film about the 20th anniversary of Azerbaijanâ€™s independence.

President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, MP Mehriban Aliyeva also joined the meeting.
