Baku. Ramil Mammadli – APA. “Azerbaijan has got peculiar policy with regard to women. This policy has not been formed within 10-20 years. This policy has ancient roots,” chief of socio-political department of the Presidential Administration Ali Hasanov said at the conference entitled “Independent Azerbaijan 20 years: state, family, women and children policy”, APA reports. He said family relies first of all on woman, then on child.
“I would also add society. Woman is one of the major supports of the society. Woman shoulders all problems in the society. I do not think that men play more role than women in the protection of human rights, state building, development of science, establishment of civil society, politics, culture, healthcare and other spheres. Relating women only to family and child originates from Islam. The Azerbaijani people had attitude towards women.

We have certain reports on women’s role in the history of Manna, Atropatena. Women together with men participated in the state-building processes. The Islamic sources are in the basis of Azerbaijan woman policy during Islamic civilization period. A woman is sainted by Islam, which says the paradise is under the feet of mothers. In Islamic sources a woman most of all is a holy creature which is householder. There is no source in Islamic civilization which speaks about women’s braveness. Woman is presented as a hero. Dede Gordud epos of the Turkic world describes woman as a brave, honorable hero who protected the honor of family. The role of woman in social life increased during Sefevi dynasty. The voting right was given to woman during ADR for the first time in the East.

According to Hasanov, Heydar Aliyev laid a foundation of modern woman policy: “The ignorance policy was pursued against women during the Azerbaijan Popular Front government. New family-woman policy which started in 1993 is being continued successfully today. I don’t consider that the women’s representation in Azerbaijan’s science, culture, policy, statehood is less. Woman must also increase their activeness in this sphere. Azerbaijani woman must be modern and she must not stay aside from the values existing in the world and its development. It is quite enough to watch the activity of Mehriban Aliyeva in order to see the role of women in presentation of Azerbaijan to the world”.
