Azerbaijani President: We must provide ourselves with major food products
The head of state noted that all projects, programs are directed to future.
“We are ensuring our successful dynamic development and all these activities are being carried out within the framework of our long-term development strategy. Economic development, solution of social problems, infrastructural projects, reconstruction works, establishment of new enterprises, creation of jobs – all this is being implemented successfully,†he said.
President said all projects necessary for the country will be implemented in the coming years.
“We have recently started construction of Shamkirchay reservoir. Thousands of hectares of land will be irrigated as a result of its operation. Over 20 000 ha area will be cultivated in Samukh. The area of the irrigated lands will be increased in the neighboring regions – Shamkir and other regions. In accordance with the instructions that I have recently given, empty land plots are being searched in Azerbaijan to establish large farming enterprises for the development of grain growing. These land plots will be determined soon, the government will organize infrastructure supply – electricity, water supply, so that we can gain more achievements in agriculture, especially grain growing. We must provide ourselves with major food products. We have reached great achievements on this way. The country’s plant-growing and poultry farming industries have a capacity to meet 70 percent of domestic needs. Local foods production, especially production of meat and milk products, vegetable oil, sugar and etc., meet 100% or 90-95% of domestic needs. The rapid development of local production will enhance our food security. There are serious discussions on food security in the world now that this issue can rise to the fore leaving the people face-to-face with big problems. We have to do so that 100 percent of foods consumed in Azerbaijan are produced in the country. Besides that we have to send our products to the foreign markets. Our products are natural and qualitative. The factories and plants based on the new technologies create good conditions for production of goods according to the world standardsâ€.
President Aliyev said there was concrete program and working schedule for every region. “The local executive bodies are carrying out this work and they must do that. The central administration is working, giving recommendations and allocating resources to make this work more advantageousâ€.
