President Ilham Aliyev gets acquainted with reconstruction works in religious complex â€œImamzadeâ€ in Ganja

Authorized representative of the Caucasian Muslims Board chairman Haji Tahir Abbasov presented a sacred Koran to the Head of State. The Head of the State spoke of the state care on sacred places for pilgrimage, holy shrines and religious sanctuaries.

As known, the President of Azerbaijan had issued an Executive Order on repair, reconstruction and renovation of the religious complex â€œImamzadeâ€ and allotted from the President Reserve Fund AZN 3 million for these works.

The reconstruction works that commenced in the religious complex â€œImamzadeâ€ in April last year will be completed by the year-end. 100 meter-long and 15 meter-wide complex is being constructed in the area. 5 big, 36 little domes will be built, modern lighting system will be installed. Local materials are mainly used in the construction. The former entry door of the complex will be reconstructed as a historical monument.

â€œImamzadeâ€ or â€œGoy (Blue) Imamâ€ tomb was built on the grave of Ibrahim, the son of 5th Imam Muhammad Bagir. Inscriptions inside the tombâ€™s dome confirm this fact.

â€œImamzadeâ€ tomb was supposedly built late 14th century-early 15th century, but mosque and tombs around it â€“ in 17th century. All of these constructions were saved as a grandiose religious-historic complex until now. The complex was restored on the initiative of General-Major Israfil Bey Yadigarzadeh in 1878-1879 for the last time and was desolated during the Soviet time. â€œImamzadeâ€ was a place of pilgrimage for believers from Azerbaijan and other countries long years. This religious complex is a witness of antiquity of Ganja and its place and influence in the Islamic world.

President Ilham Aliyev visited the Ibrahimâ€™s grave and give instructions and recommendations on the reconstruction work.
