The head of OSCE Office in Baku Ali Bilge Jankorel noted that it was the first time within the past five years, Azerbaijani opposition parties announced their participation in the elections. Noting that these elections will play a major role in the democratic development of Azerbaijan, the Ambassador said that there were three main points in connection with the election - the composition of election commissions, situation due to freedom of assembly, elucidation of election campaigns and using of these opportunities by the candidates. Jankorel noted that, if there were change in the composition of electoral commissions, it would raise social confidence in them.

Reminding the recommendations of the OSCE / ODIHR on the revision of the electoral commissions, the ambassador noted that 2 places belonged to opposition at the CEC, 125 at the District Election Commissions, and 5169 at polling stations.

Jankorel noted that attempts to freedom of assembly had been prevented over the last month, and a base that served as an indication of the inconsistency of the proposed places to the law.

Touching upon last amendments made to the Electoral Code, the Ambassador noted the importance of making opportunities for candidates’ campaigning at both the national and regional channels.

Then the meeting was continued without the participation of journalists.
