Baku. Elnur Mammadli – APA. “First discussions over the amendments proposed to the Electoral Code were held and it will be continued in the next days. The OSCE will participate in this meeting. I don’t understand the reasons of these amendments completely, but I will try to understand those reasons”, said the Head of the OSCE Office in Baku Ali Bilge Cankorel, APA reports.

Evaluating the proposal to reduce period of pre-election campaign from 75 to 60 days, Cankorel said the OSCE’s position on this issue was clear: “We welcome extended opportunities for the candidates in the Electoral Code. We are looking forward for the steps satisfying everyone and extending the opportunities, but not the threatening and hurting steps. We are continuing discussions with both government and opposition”.

Cankorel said the amendments to the Electoral Code were not previously discussed with the OSCE.
