Ramiz Tagiyev’s lawyer Ramiz Mirzayev told APA that criminal case had been launched on articles 178.3.2 (swindling causing great amount of damage), 192.2 (illegal business), 192..3 (illegal business by an organized group), 233.1 (illegally preparing, obtaining, keeping, carrying, giving or selling things removed from civil turnover) and 312.2 (giving a bribe to official for commitment of obviously illegal actions (inaction) or repeated bribery) of the Criminal Code.
“Ramiz Tagiyev is accused of having illegal business and helping to bring eavesdropping devices to the country,” he said.

He is held in the temporary detention facility of the Interior Ministry. He will be transferred to Baku jail soon.

The founder of the newspaper and Ramiz Tagiyev’s relative Ilkin Agali told APA that Ramiz Tagiyev was called to the Department for Investigation of Grave Crimes of the General Prosecutor’s Office in connection with the criminal case of his nephew Akif Safarov, he was released after giving testimony as a witness.
“Akif Safarov was accused of having links with Eldar Aliyev, chairman of “Agroyol” Stock Company, who was arrested by the National Security Ministry in November last year. Ramiz Tagiyev was called to the department yesterday, Nasimi district court sentenced him to two months in jail. He is said to have led the crime committed by his nephew Akif Safarov. But the main reason of Ramiz Tagiyev’s arrest is connected with his journalistic activity,” he said.
