President Ilham Aliyev: I am sure that the two big troubles such as unemployment and poverty will no longer exist in the history of Azerbaijan
“Fight against unemployment is producing good results. The practical work has been done to reduce poverty. I am sure that these two big troubles will no longer exist in the history of Azerbaijan. I am quite sure that due to the successful implementation of the second program on regional development the major infrastructural, industrial, economic and social problems will be solved by 2013. The dynamics of the economic development shows that we will possibly achieve all our targets earlier,†President said.
The President pointed out that the world community praised the economic reforms carried out in the country.
“Reliable international financial organizations praise the ongoing reforms in Azerbaijan. According to the calculations of the World Economic Forum, Azerbaijan is a leader in the CIS area for its competitiveness, development of information and communication technologies. Despite the financial crisis in the world, Azerbaijan has been praised by the reliable rating organizations recently. Our rating has risen. I can say that it is very important under the present circumstances. The ongoing crisis created big problems for a number of countries. Azerbaijan is the country, which managed to escape the effects of the economic crisis with the least losses suffered. Despite the crisis, dramatic fall in world oil prices, our economy grew by 9.3% last year. This growth is still continuing. The world community’s praising economic reforms in the country shows that a deliberate policy lies behind country’s successes. Of course, we are using and will continue to use the energy factor. There are countries in the world and the region that produce and export much more oil than we do. These months of crisis show that this factor does not play a decisive role. Well-considered policy, political will, stability, attractiveness for investments and favorable crisis environment created in the country are decisive factors,†he said.
“We will continue our strong social policy, and we will enjoy wider economic opportunities in future. We have large financial resources, currency reserves and a well considered strategic course to get this done. There is no discord in the society concerning the country’s development. Our strategic course, which aims to integrate into the world community resting on the internal opportunities, not to depend on anyone, solve all tasks by mobilizing the internal opportunities, establish effective relations with the neighboring countries, has remained unchanged. Our policy is producing results. The work done in the sphere of oil and gas is praiseworthy. The following work will be based on the work done. New opportunities, horizons are opening for us. We’ve been playing a very important role from the point of view of energy security, I believe the realization of new projects, both in the region and the continent, will allow Azerbaijan to use its energy resources on a larger scale,†President said.
