President Ilham Aliyev receives winners of European Wrestling Championship, their coaches and leadership of Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation
“This is indeed a great success, it is a great achievement to win 10 medals in the European Championship,†he said.
President said it was not accidental, our wrestlers had gained great achievements in the international championships for years.
The head of state said wrestling was popular in Azerbaijan and noted that he was glad young sportsmen performed successfully in the championship in Baku.
“It shows that sport has wonderful perspectives in Azerbaijan. Popularization of the sport has been ensured, all opportunities have been mobilized so that healthy lifestyle is preferred in Azerbaijan,†he said.
Ilham Aliyev underlined the merits of Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation and said there was a working atmosphere in the federation.
The head of state said sport was one of the important directions of the state policy in Azerbaijan, inheritance and traditions had been preserved in the sport, he underlined the role of sport veterans and noted the importance of caring for them.
Noting that the representatives of various nations are living in Azerbaijan as a family, in the atmosphere of friendship, President said the similar atmosphere was observed in the sport teams, our sportsmen gained important achievements together.
Head coach of the national Greco-Roman wrestling team Elchin Jafarov, European champions Khetag Gazyumov and Sona Ahmadli, president of Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation Fazil Mammadov expressed their gratitude to President for his care and attention to sport and sportsmen.
At the end of the meeting, the participants had their photos taken with President Ilham Aliyev.
