Ombudsman’s activity criticized at Azerbaijani Parliament’s committee

Baku. Elbrus Seyfullayev - APA. Ombudsman’s activity has been criticized at today’s meeting of Human Rights Committee of Azerbaijani Parliament. Speeches were delivered about candidates nominated for the Ombudsman post, APA reports.
MP Igbal Aghazadeh said that he was dissatisfied with the incumbent ombudsman Elmira Suleymanova’s activity and he would vote against her during the elections.
MP Arzu Samadbayli noted that all three candidates weren’t right choice. To him, there would be more successful candidates.
Though MP Fuad Muradov spoke about the candidates positively, he said it would be more expedient to prefer the work of youth at the Ombudsman’s Office: “We must help the youth. I don’t say that elders must not work, but today we must give way to young people and make appropriate atmosphere for their activity. No matter, who will be elected, he or she must try to bring realities of Azerbaijan to the notice of the world community.
Member of the committee Javanshir Pashazadeh praised Elmira Suleymanova’s activity and sad he would support her during the voting/
Deputy chairman of the committee Yevda Abramov praised incumbent ombudsman Elmira Suleymanova’s activity, but said chance might be give to the young candidate.
Chairperson of the committee Rabiyyat Aslanova finalized the discussions. Aslanova appreciated nomination of the young persons.
Rabiyyat Aslanova noted that the annual report of the ombudsman would be listened in the parliament within a few days.
“I can not say which of these nominees will make the report. But I want this report to be concrete, contain real names and write who was punished because of the violation of the law. In other words, this report must be serious enough,†she said.
One of the three nominees will be elected at the meeting of the parliament on March 5. The head of state nominated incumbent ombudsperson Elmira Suleymanova, chief of Justice Ministry’s Human Rights and Public Affairs Department Faig Gurbanov and representative of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in Azerbaijan Teymur Malikaslanov.
