Parliament’s Vice Speaker: No need in restoration of proportional election system

Baku. Elbrus Seyfullayev – APA. Azerbaijani lawmakers made some proposals at the first meeting of the parliament’s spring session, APA reports. MP Jamil Hasanli proposed to adopt oil bill and urged for gas supply of the newly-constructed buildings.

MP Mubariz Gurbanli proposed to adopt law on the occupied territories of Azerbaijan to determine the status of those territories.

MP Panah Huseynli made proposal to hold parliament hearing on the issue of Nagorno Karabakh with the participation of the authorities of that region. He also urged for releasing of arrested journalist.

Gudrat Hasanguliyev also supported proposal made by Mubariz Gurbanli and considered it necessary to discuss the situation in the Azerbaijani Army.

MP Ikram Israfil urged the parliament to discuss the draft law on amendments to the Electoral Code, but his colleague Siyavush Novruzov replied him that the existed Electoral Code is normal and doesn’t need in changes.

First Vice Speaker of the parliament Ziyafat Asgarov said the issue of proportional system should be raised during the referendum, but not now. “There is no need in that. There are many parties, but it has not reached classic form of the system yet. Why do you fear of majority system?”

Asgarov mentioned the releasing of arrested journalists as well. “Journalists are also responsible before the law as other citizens and everyone should be responsible for the actions he committed”.

Speaker of the parliament Ogtay Asadov reacted to the proposals about the defamation law. “It was not adopted in the most European countries”.
