Rehearsals have started for a new stage production of The Bear, based on the short play by Anton Chekhov, at the Azerbaijan Theatre Workers’ Union, APA reports.
The production is being developed within the “Directors’ Laboratory”, led by director, theatre pedagogue, and Honoured Art Worker Bahram Osmanov.
The play is directed by Samira Ashraf, a first year student at the directing faculty of the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts. Music for the production is arranged by Agasalim Feyzullayev.
The cast features students from the University of Culture and Arts. Huseyn Guluzade plays Grigory Stepanovich Smirnov, Turkel Alasgar appears as Yelena Ivanovna Popova, and Narmin Aghayeva takes the role of Anfisa.
The story centres on Popova, a young widow leading a quiet life of mourning, whose routine is abruptly disrupted by Smirnov, a creditor of her late husband. As Popova and her maid Anfisa attempt to resolve the debt, events unfold in an unexpected way.
The production is scheduled to be presented in March at the Azerbaijan Theatre Workers’ Union.
