The Ministry of Culture and the Intellectual Property Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan have issued a joint statement regarding the illegal appropriation of the music of Azerbaijani composer Bahram Nasibov's piece titled "Garabagh" and other violations of copyright, APA reports.

The joint statement notes that the cases of theft and appropriation of Azerbaijani authored works and folklore by Armenians continue.

It was mentioned that the latest such case involves the song "Garabagh" ("Anadır arzulara hər zaman Qarabağ"), with lyrics and music by the renowned Azerbaijani composer Bahram Nasibov. This song was performed by Gor Yepremyan with altered lyrics and posted on YouTube under the title "Sirun jan," with the description "Armenian Folk," implying it as an "Armenian folk song." Similar to the appropriation of Uzeyir Hajibeyov's works by Armenians, this plagiarism has rightly caused a significant public outcry in Azerbaijani society, and the Intellectual Property Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan provided a comprehensive comment on this matter on July 9, 2024.

"In this regard, we demand from the relevant authorities of the Republic of Armenia to cease the mass performance and presentation of Azerbaijani composer Bahram Nasibov's work 'Garabagh' under the altered title 'Sirun jan' as an Armenian folk song by Gor Yepremyan, to eliminate cases of plagiarism, to restore Bahram Nasibov's copyright, to hold those responsible for the violation accountable in accordance with international law and national legislation, and to provide information on the measures taken," the statement stressed.
