Former rector of Baku Music Academy dies

Baku. Lachin Sultanova â€“ APA. Elmira Abdulhamid Abasova, outstanding representative of Azerbaijani musicology, honored art figure, member of Composersâ€™ Union, professor of Baku Music Academy named after Uzeyir Hajibayov, died at the age of 77 after long-lasting disease on February 12.

APA reports that Abasova was rector of Azerbaijan State Conservatoire in 1977-1991. She is the author of the books, articles and essays about the composers, who played great role in the history of Azerbaijani national composing school â€“ Gara Garayev, Fikrat Amirov, Soltan Hajibayov, Jovdat Hajiyev, Niyazi, Said Rustamov, Rauf Hajiyev, famous singers Bulbul, Gurban Pirimov, Bahram Mansurov, Rashid Behbudov.

Elmira Abasova studied stylistic features and importance of Azerbaijani mugham. Teaching had a special place in her activity. Elmira Abasova taught a number of musicologists and candidates of sciences.

Outstanding musicologist was buried in Baku yesterday.
