Azerbaijan Ashugs Union appeals to UNESCO for including ashug music into cultural heritage list

Baku. Ulkar Gasimova â€“ APA. The first meeting of the management board of Azerbaijan Ashugs Union has been held today. APA reports that chairman of Azerbaijan Ashugs Union, peopleâ€™s poet Zalimkhan Yagub spoke about the current state of the ashug art. He said the creative activity of over 70 ashugs had not been preserved. Zalimkhan Yagub said the same mistakes should not be repeated and added that a special collection of 20 ashugsâ€™ works had been prepared in UNESCO. The collection is in France and will be brought to Azerbaijan soon.

Zalimkhan Yagub said the office problem of the Ashugs Union had been solved and consent had been obtained to publish weekly newspaper â€œOzan dunyasiâ€.

First deputy chairman of Azerbaijan Ashugs Union Maharram Gasimli said the union had been recognized by the government and underlined that certificate, seal and emblem of the union had been presented to the unionâ€™s leadership.
â€œWe are glad that the issue on including Azerbaijani ashug music into the UNESCOâ€™s list of cultural heritage is about to be solved. All the necessary documents have been prepared and will be soon submitted to UNESCOâ€™s Organizing Committee,â€ he said.

The members of the union signed the document to be sent to UNESCOâ€™s Organizing Committee.
