The information about it has been posted on the website of the Academy Awards. Shamil Nacafzada told APA that the film produced by Azerbayjanfilm Studio named after Jafar Jabbarly and United Multimedia Profile had been sent to America a month before.
“Rauf Atamalibayov and Timur Vaynshtein had great role in introducing the film. We were told a month ago that the film had to be sent to America by October 1. Thanks to these two producers the film, all the related documents, photos and poster were sent to America within two days. A month later the website of the Oscar Committee reported that the film “Fortress” from Azerbaijan had been qualified,” he said.

Shamil Nacafzada regarded the nomination of an Azerbaijani film for Oscar as one of the important events in the history of the country’s cinematography.
“We should admit that there is Azeri film on the map of the Academy Awards. It is impossible to win by participating for the first time. Time is needed to win this award. Azerbaijani cinematography will have a chance to win the award after it proves itself,” he said.

The film director said choice would be made among 67 films nominated for Oscar by the presentation ceremony on February 22, 2009 and five films would be chosen at the ceremony.
“Even if our film is among 30 films, it will be a great achievement for us,” he said.

The film “Fortress” was directed by Shamil Nacafzada, script written by poet Ramiz Rovshan, cameraman is Kanan Mammadov, artists are Arif Maharramov and Aziz Mammadov. People’s artists Rasim Balayev and Firangiz Mutallimova star in the film.
