 Baku hosts international seminar “Museum database against the illegal trade”

Baku. Ulkar Gasimova–APA. The Ministry of Culture and Tourism and Azerbaijani National Committee of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) organized an international seminar “Museum database against the illegal trade” on Monday in Baku. ICOM Secretary Jennifer Thevenot said the seminar had been dedicated to the 15th anniversary of the ICOM Azerbaijan National Committee. The participants have discussed the including the ICOM Object ID in the museum experience and creating museum database on its basis to prevent illegal trade of museum exhibits. Thevenot said Object ID project had been developed through the collaboration of the museum community, police and customs agencies, the art trade, insurance industry, and virtuoso and antiques. It helps to combat art theft by encouraging use of the standard and by bringing together organizations around the world that can encourage its implementation. The project was elaborated by the Getty Institute on order on the International Council of Museums.
Thevenot and Interpol Secretary General’s representative Karl-Heinz Kind have held practical trainings for the participants within the seminar.
