Norwegian Minister of International Development Anne Beathe Tvinnereim's interview to APA

-Ms. Tveitryem, first of all, we would like to hear your thoughts on the COP29 held in Baku and the issues being discussed here.

- Firstly, I would like to say that as the Norwegian government, we are pleased to see the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change's Conference of the Parties, or COP29, held here in Azerbaijan and to participate in it. This COP is very well organized, and all elements have been carefully considered. This is very important because the activities of the countries participating in the conference are of crucial significance. I can tell you that our team of negotiators is working extremely hard to reach a final agreement. We believe that the parties will ultimately come to an agreement on climate finance. At the same time, it is known that negotiations are taking place under extremely complex conditions, with an overwhelming number of demands from the parties. Nevertheless, Norway believes that an agreement will be reached on the final document.

- In your opinion, what obstacles in the negotiations might hinder the parties from reaching a final agreement?

- We are very confident that an agreement on climate finance will be reached, and we hope for it. We also know that many developing countries have very high demands regarding the amount of climate finance. Norway, and I am sure many other countries, will continue to work towards signing the final document because we understand how decisive and important this moment is. I believe that the discussions around climate finance are significant. We want to make use of the private sector's support in ensuring it and to make sure that most countries will demonstrate initiative in securing climate financing.

- Madam Minister, what is Norway's position on obtaining the final document of COP29?

- We are extremely interested in agreeing on the final document of COP29 to ensure a direct transition to the use of green energy. There is a huge need for sufficient financial resources in this area. For this, most of the countries should ensure the financing of more funds, and at the same time, the representatives of the private sector should be involved in this process. Without attracting a significant flow of finance for the development of green energy, the global transition to green energy will not be possible.

- You emphasize that Norway attaches importance to COP29 and its interest in reaching an agreement on the final document. However, the Norwegian government was not represented at the leadership level at COP29. What can you say about this?

- It is not within my authority to comment on this matter, so I am unable to answer this question. I believe it would be more appropriate to address this question to the relevant authorities.

- How do you assess the level of cooperation between Norway and Azerbaijan in the energy sector?

- Both Norway and Azerbaijan are major oil producers, and of course, this provides significant advantages to both countries. However, I believe that both countries need to accelerate the energy transition process. Because the competitiveness and production indicators in the oil production sector between our countries are also needed in the field of technology. In conclusion, I would like to add that accelerating the green energy transition depends on all of us.
