"Currently, 730 million people in the world are facing hunger," said Viorel Gutu, Assistant Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Regional Representative for Europe and Central Asia, at the Roundtable on "Accelerating Climate Action through Regional Cooperation on Water, Energy, Food and Ecosystems" organized by the COP29 Presidency in cooperation with the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), APA reports.
"We need to double food production from current levels to prevent hunger. We need to build our world on a more energy-efficient basis," Viorel Gutu noted.
