"In 2025, global advertising market revenue will exceed 1 trillion dollars," Alex Morrey, a representative of the "Conscious Advertising Network" Non-Governmental Organization, said during a press conference today, APA reports.
He stated that if disinformation and fake social media profiles had not spread so widely, this figure could have been even higher: "The spread of disinformation has reduced trust in the advertising market. For example, more than 44,000 websites operating in the United States had to face a loss of 120 billion dollars due to advertising fraud. Especially in the field of climate change, cases of disinformation have decreased trust in the global advertising market. This has also impacted freedom of speech. In order to prevent such cases, activities should be carried out in individual countries to promote climate journalism. I believe progress on this issue should be made by the COP in 2030. Disinformation casts a shadow over climate actions and UNESCO's recommendations. The situation around the information ecosystem also raises concerns. I believe governments must take serious and effective measures to ensure transparency in this area."
