"Armenian statehood is built on ultra-nationalist ideas and is based on fascism. Armenia needs to be cured of the disease of fascism," Sergey Markov, Director of Russian Institute of Political Studies, a well-known political scientist, has stated in an interview with APA's Moscow correspondent.
According to him, the statements of the first president of Armenia, Levon Ter-Petrosyan, full of ultra-nationalist, inhumane ideas and political theses, can be characterized as fascist: "Ter-Petrosyan's now revealed statement is a manifestation of the truth that has long been known to experts. Unfortunately, Armenian statehood is built on ultra-nationalist ideas and is based on outright fascism. A vivid example of this is the attitude towards Azerbaijanis. During the First Garabagh War, when ethnic cleansing was carried out by Armenia, a truly fascist attitude was displayed towards Azerbaijanis. This happened even before the First Garabagh War, when hundreds of thousands of Azerbaijanis were expelled from Western Zangezur, from their ancestral homeland. We know that today there are openly fascist organizations operating in the life of modern Armenia. We also know that in modern Armenia there are heroes like Garagin Nzhdeh, who served Adolf Hitler. It was the saboteurs trained by Nzhdeh who killed Soviet soldiers in the rear during the Great Patriotic War," Markov emphasized.
The Russian political scientist has also stated that the ideologies of many active Armenian political organizations are based on ultra-nationalism and are linked to fascist structures: "This shows that the words of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, 'The independent Armenian state is, in fact, a fascist state.Fascism must be destroyed,' are justified. It would be better if the Armenian people themselves destroyed this. But will the Armenian people have the strength to eliminate the fascist trend prevailing in the country's socio-political life? If they do not have the strength, other countries will be forced to raise this issue. For example, Russia has raised the issue at the state level that the heroization of fascist Garagin Nzhdeh is unacceptable. We see that the Azerbaijani government is right in raising the issue of the unacceptable heroization of other Armenians accused of committing mass crimes against humanity during the First Garabagh War. Crimes such as the Khojaly genocide should never be pardoned. Those who committed this genocide must sit in the defendant's chair. The fact that the Armenian political class carries ultra-nationalist and fascist ideologies shows that the Armenian state is undergoing corrosion and is diseased. Armenia must be cured from this disease," Markov concluded.
