Armenia’s potential accession to the European Union, along with possible changes in visa regimes with Russia and Iran, could reduce tourist inflows and harm economic sectors, said Deputy Secretary of Russia’s Security Council Alexei Shevtsov, TASS reports.
He noted that Armenia’s withdrawal from the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) could seriously impact the country’s key industries, with production in sectors such as metallurgy, beverage production, tobacco products, and food processing potentially declining by up to 30%.
At the same time, Shevtsov added that no significant economic damage is expected for other members of the union, and possible losses would be minimal, at the level of “fractions of a percent.”
