Chairman of the Party of Regions Victor Yanukovich gained 48.55% and Prime Minister Julia Tymoshenko – 45.79% after the counting of 89.13% of the ballots. 4.46% of the voters were against both candidates.
Yanukovich led the second round of the presidential elections against Victor Yushchenko in 2004, but “orange opposition†didn’t recognize it and Yushchenko was elected in the re-run second round as a result of “orange revolution†in the country.
