Georgia and Russia resume air traffic

Baku â€“ APA. Flights tickets from Georgia to Russia are on sale. APA reports quoting â€œRIA Novostyâ€ that the tickets are available in Tbilisi International Airport. The first charter flight to Moscow is expected to be at 12:20 with local time on December 26.

Airzena-Georgian Airlines has asked the Russian Ministry of Transport to allow it to charter daily flights from Dec. 26 to Jan. 15 and to restore regular flights from Jan. 5. The application was being considered at the Russian Ministry of Transport, the company said.

Earlier, Russian President Dimitry Medvedev had spoken about reinstating flights between Georgia and Russia: â€œI donâ€™t see any serious obstacles [in this issue], since that stems first and foremost from the publicâ€™s interestsâ€.

After Medvedevâ€™s statement, Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili also supported the resumption of the flights.

Note that the flights between the two countries were suspended on August 8, 2008 because of war in South Ossetia.
