Georgian parliament declares amnesty for convicted drug addicts

Tbilisi – APA. Georgian parliament declared amnesty for all prisoners convicted for drug crimes. According to the amnesty act, term of imprisonment will be double reduced for them, APA reports. The experts said the amnesty would benefit nearly 1500 prisoners and 900 of them would be released. Speaker of the parliament David Barkadze said it was necessary to return the people, who created problems for themselves and their families committing drug crimes, to the society. 273rd article of the Georgian Criminal Code charges 120-180 hours of public work or one year of imprisonment for illegal production, storage, purchase and use of the drugs.
