Moldova plans to rename national language
# 30 September 2009 10:51 (UTC +04:00)
The Prime Minister said Moldovan language was named under the pressure of conjuncture ideas and didn’t mean anything. “Moldovan people speak in Romanian like Americans speak in English. The national language can be renamed in the future from Moldovan to Romanian”.

The national language of Moldova is Latin-typed Moldovan language. Only separatist Transdniestrian region of the country saved the Cyrillic. Bucharest said Moldovan was not identical with Romanian. It said Moldovan was one of the dialects of Romanian language.

The issue of national language got principal character in early 1990s when the country became independent and caused long-year disputes. Pro-Romanian Prime Minister Vladimir Filat gave the green light to renaming of national language in his address to the European parliament. His first order, when he took the post of Prime Minister, was ban on visa regime between Romania and Moldova.
