The 32 drivers were flown into Sanliurfa on Thursday evening after being released in Erbil, Iraq, earlier in the day.

Driver Muslum Gormes thanked Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu for his work in securing their release. Referring to phone calls from the minister while they were in captivity, he said: “We thought that we would not go back to our country. However, our minister Davutoglu remained close to us and this gave us hope again.”

After speaking with the drivers and their relatives over dinner, Kucuk told Anadolu Agency: “There are no visible health problems to be seen for the freed Turkish truck drivers.”

Mehmet Ceydan, another driver, said he constantly dreamt his eight children while he was being held hostage.
