Baku-APA. A total of 32 released Turkish truck drivers arrived at GAP Airport in Sanliurfa province in southern Turkey from northern Iraq on Thursday evening, APA reports quoting local NTV news channel.
The Turkish truck drivers were kidnapped by militants belonging to the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) in Iraq's second largest city of Mosul on June 10. They were released on Thursday.
Sanliurfa local officials and the drivers' relatives greeted them at the airport, private Dogan news agency reported. Officials said they are in good health.
Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said on Thursday that the released truck drivers were handed over to Turkish officials the same day, and Ankara is working to secure the release of other Turks held as hostages.
ISIL militants took control of the Turkish consulate in Mosul on June 11, kidnapping 49 staff and their family members, including the consul-general.
