The United Arab Emirates has attempted to influence the foreign policy of the United States, said a classified report by the National Intelligence Council, APA reports citing the Washington Post.
Sources with knowledge of the report stated that the UAE has engaged in a number of actions, including some that "more closely resemble espionage."
The article claims that the UAE acted during multiple US administrations, attempting "to exploit the vulnerabilities in American governance, including its reliance on campaign contributions, susceptibility to powerful lobbying firms and lax enforcement of disclosure laws intended to guard against interference by foreign governments."
The report states that the country spent $154 million on lobbyists since 2016, as well as providing donations to universities in the US.
